Over a cup of tea…
August 6, 2013
If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d be super excited about BOOKS! How is that different from any other day, you might ask? Well, I was in a bit of a rut lately. It took me a really long time to get through the last few books I tackled. But I am pleased to announce I finished my great-great aunt Evelyn’s book We Keep a Light (and plan on reviewing it for the UBC blog soon) and also read Ira Levin’s The Stepford Wives in one day. Amazing! Now I am finally reading The Light Between Oceans, which I am loving for two reasons – it’s set in Australia and, like Aunt Evelyn’s memoir, is about lighthouse-keeping! I’m also pleased to report that I’ve nailed down my book club pick to two or three (I am hosting book club next weekend).
If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d tell you how positively floored I am at last night’s finale of The Bachelorette. I barely watched this season because I found it so boring and I always read the spoilers, so I knew thought I knew what was going to happen. I was pretty confident until about 9:30 last night, when I realized there wasn’t enough time for Brooks to return and propose to Des. And then… wow. I’ve been reading spoilers for 5+ years and have never been so blindsided. THAT makes for good TV. Now I’m a little torn about my spoiler sources… were they finally paid enough to steer people in the wrong direction? Were they honestly just wrong? Did ABC finally figure out how to fool everyone, including the spoiler bloggers? I guess I’ll never know!
If we were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d tell you what a freakin’ fantastic weekend we had. This sounds totally clichéd and ridiculous, but My Other Half is seriously the best friend I could ever imagine. I just can’t get enough of him! We practically did nothing for three days (well, almost nothing) and it was bliss. Some weekend highlights included dinner at Kelly’s Landing (our new favourite spot – scenery was unreal, food was excellent and service was prompt and friendly), lots of reading, visiting our friends’ new baby girl, delicious home-cooked meals, long drives for ice cream and a romantic surprise for no good reason. I want to do it all over again!
