Over a cup of tea…
September 3, 2013
If we were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d be sad. It’s “back to school” today. This always makes me miss university. It was seven year ago that my parents dropped me off at Carleton’s Prescott residence. Time sure flies. Anyway, this time of year makes me think about getting another degree. No idea what, or where, or when… but someday. Maybe. I just love school!
If we were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d have plenty of restaurants to talk about. I tried three new ones this past week (yes, three). The first was Allium where I went for Monday night tapas. That’s the only thing they serve on Mondays, which was totally okay with me since I stopped ordering mains when eating out (I can never finish them, so I typically get two appetizers). The food was fresh, local and in season. I particularly loved the heirloom tomato dish they had and the tenderloin tartare. I also had a delicious new wine unavailable in the LCBOs – Rockbare Shiraz from Australia. Yum! The second spot I tried was Absinthe with My Other Half for our half anniversary (which is really just an excuse to have dinner together). It was really, really good. The restaurant has a “men’s club/cigar room” feel – black leather arm chairs, mahogany finishings etc. The food was outstanding – particularly the Korean BBQ quail. One of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The last new restaurant I tried was El Camino, which I was the most excited for. The hip taco joint has taken Ottawa by storm and trust me, it’s well worth it. The tacos (my favourite was the fish) were huge, reasonably priced and mouth-wateringly delicious. And the cocktails, although they took a while, were original and exciting. Definitely my new favourite spot and can’t wait to take My Other Half.
If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d tell you how proud I am for cleaning my entire house from top to bottom this long weekend! I literally moved every piece of furniture and cleaned things that probably hadn’t been cleaned since we moved in 2.5 years ago. It feels great!
If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d tell you I crashed My Other Half’s boys weekend on Sunday. Well… not really, because I was invited (more like lured), but I wasn’t supposed to go. He and five other guys rented a house boat in Gananoque. The weather was so great on Sunday that when I was asked to join them, I couldn’t resist! The swimming and scenery was totally worth the 90-minute drive (which is super long for me).
