Basic, Delicious Hamburgers

By Wednesday, August 13, 2014

I love burgers, but it’s funny because we haven’t been making a lot of burgers this year. We’ve been taking full advantage of the grilling season, just with a lot of sausages. I love me some sausages, but they cannot replace BURGERS. Nothing can

I’ve blogged about burgers a few times on the blog. My all-time favourite is still the Jalapeño & Cheese-Stuffed Hamburger recipe, but I loved these Cheese-Stuffed Turkey Sliders (or just anything cheese-stuffed, apparently) and these Portobello Burgers with Goat Cheese too. I blogged about Mushroom Cheeseburgers and they were amazing, but I haven’t made them in a long time. I probably should get on that… like, this week.Hamburgers

I have never blogged about our favourite go-to burger recipe. Plain Jane, good ol’ fashioned hamburgers, without any fancy business. They’re ready in no time and about ten thousand times better than frozen burger patties (which we almost never buy anymore).

A basic, no-fuss, classic hamburger is amazing because you can basically do anything with it. Caramelized onions, mushrooms, avocado, spinach… anything goes! We pretty much stick to cheese and bacon, but who can go wrong with cheese and bacon?! NO ONE.

On these burgers, you’ll see we also had onions and tomatoes, and lettuce (not shown). I always have ketchup, mustard, relish and mayo on my burgers too. And sometimes peanut butter, because it’s DELICIOUS and you need to try it NOW.

The best part about our burger recipe is that they’re so juicy. I love a juicy burger! Just remember that burgers, when cooked, shrink down a lot. So make them BIG.

Oh and ignore the funny-looking  whole wheat, flat burger buns. #healthy

Basic, Delicious Hamburgers

Yield: 4

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely minced
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 lb ground beef (we use lean)

  1. Whisk everything together in a small bowl, except the beef. Using your hands (it’s the best way!), gradually add in the beef until evenly distributed. Shape into four burgers, no more than 1/2 –inch thick. Grill for about 6 minutes per side, until cooked through. Serve with your favourite toppings and condiments on a bun!
